Buxton Weather Station is in Buxton, 9 miles north of Norwich, at latitude 52.42.12 & longitude 1.17.46 and is 8 metres above sea level. It is situated in park land in a river valley. The site is sheltered to the west by trees and is in a frost hollow. The rain gauge siting is approved by the Met Office.
I have an automatic weather station which feeds data into my house and on to the internet. It takes obsevations every 30 minutes but can be set for any chosen interval. I have certified max and min thermometers in a Stevenson’s screen. On the ground I have a 5” copper rain gauge,a ground thermometer and a soil thermometer 30cms below the surface. My daily readings are taken manually from these instruments. I have also had an anemometer and a sun recorder on the roof of my house for the past 10 years about 10 metres above ground level.
I have been recording temperatures at this site since 1974 and rainfall readings, which started at a neighbouring site, since 1963. My extremes and averages appear on another page.
